FUTURE PLANS FOR A NEW STEEL HOUSE FACILITY

Thanks to the article about Steel House on the UI webpage, we were contacted by two UI architecture graduates who have offered to assist us with rchitectural planning and preliminary design of a new house on a pro bono basis. Don't you just love those Vandal connections! We have also identified several possible locations for a new house, and are working to pin down the best one.

Starting in fall 2010, the University will require all freshmen to live on campus. As a result, campus housing will be a valuable commodity, and the Phi Tau's are interested in revitalizing their UI chapter. Since our lease for their house is up in 2012, it's important that we start now in determining an alternative. Working with our architect partners, members of the Steel House Board and current residents of the House are providing ideas on design elements both inside and out and on the best location to build. The architects will join us during our Steel House reunion on April 24 to review plans and answer questions.

We're also exploring funding options for the new house. If you have experience in writing grants and would be able to help with this aspect of the project, your assistance would be most welcome! Contact Del Hungerford for more detail on this.

Steel House is accepting donations to help pay for grant writing. These funds are 100% tax deductible and can be sent directly to Steel House at PO Box 3045, Moscow, ID 83843. Be sure to put "attention: Carolyn Smith" on the envelope. Steel House has identified a person who is helping research grants. We are now in the process of collecting fundsso she can begin towrite the grants for fees associated with our building (or moving to another place)project. More of the specifics about the grant writing will be presented at the reunion in April of 2010.
