  • One-half of the amount donated,
  • 20% of the tax on line 23,
  • $100 ($200 on a joint return),
  • The tax on line 23 less the amount on line 24.

Donations of supplies (see list below) may be sent to the physical address:

If you would like to specifically designate your funds, please indicate in the memo section of your check what you’d like that donation to go towards.

Emergency Assistance fund:
These are funds that residents may apply for when scholarship monies aren’t enough to pay for housing. A student may apply to the board members of Steel House Inc. for emergency funds so they may stay in school.  In exchange for this financial assistance, the resident will be asked to do some additional duties around the house. These funds will not count against the student’s financial aid. If you’d like to donate towards this emergency fund, please indicate “emergency assistance” with your donation.

Preparation of Grant Materials:
Fran McCully, of Your Administrative Solutions (www.youradministrativesolutions.com) has been hired by Steel House Inc. to help us through the grant process. Through a large donation, she has been able to begin this process. Fran has indicated that there are federal, state, and grants by foundations that specifically target low-income housing. The application process is on-going.  Expenses are needed to help pay for the researching and writing of grants. If you’d like to donate toward this cause, please indicate “grant” with your donation.

Preparation of Architectural Plans:
Although Steel House has two separate architectural firms desiring to work with this project, before grant monies can even be awarded, we must have the proper plans for a building. This part is often not included with the grant funds, as it needs to be completed before the grant process.  If you’d like to donate toward the fees for the chosen architect, please indicate “architect” with your donation.

Home Furnishings:
Steel House will be in a temporary facility until our new home is built.  We have several needs.  If you’d like to donate funds for furnishings, either indicate which piece of furniture you’d like to assist with or simply indicate “furnishings” with your donation.

  • New mattresses (15)
  • Wardrobe closets (6)
  • Kitchen supplies (pots, pans, lids, serving pieces , and various utensils)
  • Shelving units
  • A complete set of dining room chairs (50)
  • Area carpet for the living room
  • Sofa table for the living room
  • Chest freezer for extra food storage
  • House computers and printers (newer models preferred) for the study room
  • An extra television
  • Nice washable table linens

Additional Needs

If you are interested in becoming a part of Steel House Inc., you may join the board. Board members need not to have been residents of Steel House to be on the board; they need to have an interest and desire to promote what Steel House stands for. Board members that hold offices must have lived in Steel House as a student while attending the University of Idaho. We are looking for members that are willing to see the building project through to its completion.
Areas of current needs are:

  • Those with engineering experience
  • Those with interior design experience
  • Those with construction experience
  • Those who can devote time to various research projects that center around building a large facility
  • Those who are good with finances and investing
